1. Minimum Rental Duration
Minimum Rental Period: 24 hours. A late return exceeding 1 hour may result in an additional day’s charge. Late return policy:
Delay up to 1 hour: no charge
Delay during the 2nd hour: €10 per hour
Delay of more than 3 hours: charge of one additional rental day
The Company reserves the right to impose additional charges for late returns.
2. Driver Requirements
The minimum age to rent a vehicle is 18 years.
Drivers aged 18 to 20 years may only rent vehicles in Category A and A Plus.
Drivers in this age category are not eligible for full insurance coverage and are required to pay the full amount in case of accident, damage, or incident involving the vehicle.
All drivers must possess a valid driving license.
An International Driving Permit may be required depending on the renter’s country of origin.
The Company reserves the right to refuse the rental if the documents provided are incomplete or insufficient.
AUTHORIZED DRIVERS
Only drivers explicitly listed in the rental agreement are permitted to drive the vehicle.
3. Vehicle Use & Restrictions
Subleasing Prohibited: The renter is not allowed to sublease or transfer the vehicle to any third party.
Prohibited Use: The vehicle must not be used for:
Racing, towing, or off-road driving.
Transporting illegal substances or hazardous materials.
Driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any other substances.
Driving outside of Greece without prior written permission.
Authorized Drivers: Only drivers listed on the rental agreement may operate the vehicle. If the vehicle is driven by an unauthorized person, the renter bears full responsibility for all damages, losses, fines, and legal consequences.
The renter agrees that the vehicle will not be used for:
racing or competitions
driving lessons
towing other vehicles
illegal activities
transporting illegal goods
driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
transporting hazardous materials
off-road driving or unsuitable terrain
subleasing or lending the vehicle to third parties
Violation of these terms may result in immediate termination of the agreement and full liability of the renter for any damage.
4. Cancellation Policy
Cancellation more than 7 days prior to rental: Free cancellation.
Cancellation within 7 days of rental: 40% charge of the total amount and no refund of the deposit.
High season (July–September): No refund of the deposit for cancellations made within 7 days, but a 40% credit can be issued for future use (excluding June, July, and August).
No-show: No refund.
5. Fuel Policy
Vehicles are provided with a specified fuel level and must be returned with the same amount. Otherwise, refuelling charges apply.
If returned with less fuel, the renter will be charged:
the fuel difference
a €20 refuelling fee
6. Cleaning Policy
The vehicle must be returned in reasonable cleanliness.
Additional cleaning charges may apply for:
excessive dirt
sand or mud
interior stains
food spills
smoking odor
If the vehicle requires excessive cleaning due to:
Sand
Mud
Food spills
Interior stains
Smoking inside the vehicle
A cleaning fee of €50-€150 may apply depending on the condition.
Smoking inside the vehicle is strictly prohibited.
Violation may result in a cleaning fee.
7. Maintenance & Repairs
Authorized Repairs Only: Vehicles must be serviced and repaired exclusively at our authorized workshop. Any unauthorized repairs are strictly prohibited, and the renter will be liable for all related costs.
Breakdowns & Assistance: In case of a breakdown, the renter must immediately contact our 24/7 assistance service.
8. Insurance Coverage
Third-Party Liability Insurance covers damages to third parties.
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) reduces the renter’s liability in case of damage, subject to a deductible amount.
Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) covers the driver and passengers in case of an accident.
The vehicle is insured according to Greek law. Insurance coverage may become invalid if:
the driver is under the influence of alcohol
the driver is not authorized
the vehicle is used illegally
traffic laws are violated
the accident is not properly reported
Drivers aged 18-20 are required to pay the full amount in case of accident.
In case of theft or total loss of the vehicle, the renter may be held responsible for:
damages not covered by insurance
losses caused by negligence
The renter must immediately:
notify the Police
obtain an official report
notify the Company
Failure to provide a police report may result in full financial liability.
TIRES, GLASS AND UNDERBODY
Damages to the following parts are not covered by insurance:
mirrors
vehicle underbody
interior components
headlights
roof
tires
rims
windshield
These damages may be charged directly to the renter.
9. Security Deposit, Payment & Damage Liability
A valid credit or debit card is required for the security deposit.
Accepted Payment Methods: Cash, bank transfers, and credit/debit cards.
Damage Liability: In case of damage caused by the renter, Zante Auto Rentals reserves the right to deduct the necessary amount from the security deposit for repairs.
Deposit Release: The deposit may be held for up to 20 days after the vehicle is returned in order to check for possible:
vehicle damages
traffic violations
toll charges
administrative fines
cleaning or repair costs
The Company reserves the right to charge the renter’s credit card for damages or fines discovered after the end of the rental period.
10. Vehicle Inspection & Documentation
Upon receiving the vehicle, the renter must take photographs of both the exterior and interior to document the car's condition.
A representative from Zante Auto Rentals may also take photographs.
These images will be sent via email to both the renter and Zante Auto Rentals as proof of the vehicle’s initial condition.
VEHICLE CONDITION
The vehicle is delivered after inspection and photographic documentation.
Photos may be taken before and after the rental, which may be shared with the renter.
By accepting the vehicle, the renter confirms that the vehicle is in good mechanical and visual condition, unless otherwise stated in the inspection form.
The renter agrees to:
inspect the vehicle upon delivery
immediately report any existing damage
Failure to report damage at pickup constitutes acceptance of the vehicle’s condition.
Upon return, the vehicle will be checked for:
new damages
interior condition
missing accessories
fuel level
11. Accident Procedure
In case of an accident, the renter must immediately notify Zante Auto Rentals and the police.
The renter must not move the vehicle until authorities arrive and a formal accident report is completed.
In case of accident, damage, theft, or fire, the renter must:
immediately notify the Company
call the Police and obtain an official report
complete an accident report form
Failure to follow this procedure may result in full financial liability of the renter.
12. Liability for Traffic Violations
The renter is fully responsible for any fines, toll fees, or penalties incurred during the rental period.
The renter is fully responsible for:
traffic violations
parking fines
toll charges
administrative penalties
The Company may apply an administrative fee of €40 per violation for handling these fines.
13. Loss of keys or documents
The renter is responsible for replacement costs in case of loss of:
vehicle keys
vehicle document
license plates
accessories
The cost of replacing keys may range from €150-€400, depending on the model.
14. Data Protection
GDPR Compliance: Customer data is stored securely and used only for contractual and legal purposes.
15. Dispute Resolution
Any disputes shall be resolved in accordance with Greek law. Alternative dispute resolution options may be available.
16. GEOGRAPHICAL RESTRICTIONS
Vehicles are permitted to be used only within the island, unless written authorization from the Company is provided.
Transporting the vehicle:
outside the island
on a ship or ferry
outside the approved area
without written authorization may result in financial penalties and termination of the agreement.
17. GPS TRACKING
Vehicles may be equipped with a GPS tracking system for security purposes.
By signing this agreement, the renter consents to this tracking, exclusively for vehicle security and recovery purposes.
18. Force Majeure
The Company shall not be liable for delays or inability to provide services due to circumstances beyond its control, such as:
natural disasters
earthquakes
floods
fires
extreme weather conditions
war
terrorism
government restrictions
strikes
pandemics
In such cases, the Company is not obligated to provide refunds or compensation.
19. Governing Law
This Agreement shall be governed by Greek Law.
Any dispute arising from this Agreement shall fall under the jurisdiction of the courts of Greece.
General Terms and Conditions for Car Rentals in Europe
1. Definitions
"Company" refers to the car rental provider.
"Renter" refers to the individual or entity renting the vehicle.
"Vehicle" refers to the car provided by the Company for rental.
2. Eligibility
The Renter must be at least 21 years old (age requirements may vary by country and vehicle type).
The Renter must hold a valid driver’s license recognized in the country of rental and have at least one year of driving experience.
Additional drivers must also meet the eligibility requirements.
3. Rental Period
The rental period begins at the time of vehicle pickup and ends at the agreed return time and date.
Extensions must be approved by the Company and may incur additional charges.
4. Vehicle Use
The Vehicle may only be used for lawful purposes.
The Renter must not:
Drive the Vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any impairing substances.
Use the Vehicle for racing, towing, or off-road activities unless explicitly allowed.
Sublet or lend the Vehicle to unauthorized persons.
5. Insurance and Liability
Basic insurance coverage is included, subject to the terms of the rental agreement.
The Renter is liable for any damage, theft, or loss to the Vehicle, up to the agreed deductible.
Optional insurance upgrades may be available for purchase.
6. Fuel Policy
The Vehicle is provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with a full tank unless otherwise agreed.
Refuelling charges will apply if the Vehicle is returned without a full tank.
7. Payments and Deposits
Payment for the rental must be made in full at the time of booking or pickup.
A security deposit will be required and refunded upon return of the Vehicle, subject to inspection.
Additional charges may apply for late returns, toll fees, or fines incurred during the rental period.
8. Cancellation and Refunds
Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours before the rental period begins to qualify for a full refund.
Late cancellations or no-shows may result in partial or no refunds.
9. Breakdown and Assistance
In the event of a breakdown, the Renter must contact the Company immediately.
The Company will provide roadside assistance or a replacement vehicle when feasible.
10. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the country where the rental is initiated.
Disputes will be resolved in the courts of the same jurisdiction.
